BTM:
First, we would like to say thank to you Von, for taking the time with us for this interview. Let’s start with talking about your new single, “Nazcar”.
“NAZCAR” carries a high-energy, fast-paced intensity—almost like a race. What inspired the theme and feeling behind this track, and how does it reflect where you are in life right now?
Von Barz:
“I’m an old school new school guy. I love the old school design, but I appreciate the new modern way of doing things. My goal with this track is to inspire ambition and drive relentlessly, with the goal of finishing first place. Obviously masking the intent behind the wheel of a fast car was a spinoff for enthusiast like me to feel comfortable enjoying a seemingly simple concept before peeling the onion layers. Nazcar is literally about my life. I’m constantly trying to keep things together while staying in the race to win at life. Like everyone else in the world, overcoming adversity is a thing but durability is the key. Before I lay down, I’ll mash the gas on em!”
BTM:
Your delivery on this song is sharp and confident. How do you approach writing and recording to make sure your energy translates into the final track?
Von Barz:
“I love it when my producer hits me in the chestwith it. When I feel the right production I’m easily on one! I told Tampa (producer) throw some livestrings in and go to work at this type of sound and he took it from there. I had lyrics and a hook, but I needed something to make me bring it to life on wax. My ad libs and melodies are highlights when creating many songs.”
BTM:
A lot of artists have defining moments where they realize they’re built for this. What was that moment for you?
Von Barz:
“I’m a late bloomer. It was around 33 and I realized I’m gonna make a serious run at turning my artist dreams into reality. My brother Skeems was intricate in my return to music initially by pulling me in with a DNA feature from URL and I my manager Alex was the aha moment that I could really be special. It was through his support and networking I kept going because the music game will weigh on you.”
BTM:
How do you approach collaboration with other artists and producers?
Von Barz:
“Honestly, I’ve only done features and collabs with artists that I actually like their work, and I’ve collaborated with quite a few artists. If I’m not feeling the vibes or the music, I’m not inspired to collab. I know some will say its business and you should collab with blah blah, but nahh, I gotta fk with you to work with you. It has to be organic. If a producer/engineer is cognitive of the sessions and can build a track I’m sure I can get down with them. I’m a real hybrid artist so it’s rare that I come across a producer that doesn’t have something for me. I am particular about who I have a real repour with though when it comes to production.”
BTM:
Fans connect to authenticity. What’s something about Von Barz that people might not know but would help them understand your music on a deeper level?
Von Barz:
“My perspective is fueled by wisdom and my humble fun character masks a true Alpha Male. I can take the backseat and watch you drive but I’ll grab the wheel at any given moment! Some people can’t play the backseat. The essence of timing is a real beautiful thing when you truly understand it.”
BTM:
How do you engage with your fanbase and build a loyal community around your music?
Von Barz:
“I’m a real natural guy. I’m a people person that doesn’t care for the glam and paparazzi. I know this industry Is fueled by celebrity, but I don’t need it don’t care about it. I like winning behind the scenes and putting people on without getting all the attention. So, when it comes to enjoying the fans and being real, that’s me. Of course, when you reach a certain level of success you have to move accordingly but fans can trust I’ll be Von on the Billboard and Von in a Honda! Once people know me as a family man, entrepreneur, artist and simply me its undeniable. You gonna hate me or love me. Always remember no matter how good of a person you are can please em all.”
BTM:
What has been your most memorable live performance experience?
Von Barz:
“Performing in London, England was inspirational. Watching a different cultural group of people vibe with my music the way they did made me realize that my talents are what I knew they were. “Game Ready” “
BTM:
How do you prepare for a show, and what do you love most about performing?
Von Barz:
“It’s different seeing a crowd dance and chant your lyrics and go bar for bar. It’s a special feeling when a group of people from another part of the world has something in common with you. Making people feel like they know you and love you is a gift that’s underrated. Music brings those feelings out of people. Music is an art that can be exclusive or universal and I create both.”
BTM:
How do you navigate the balance between commercial appeal and staying true to your roots in hip-hop?
Von Barz:
“I always told myself that I’d always be me and if I ever had to question my integrity or authenticity, I’d be outta there! Fortunately, I have a dope team around me that embraces my artistry and Genuity. I’m versatile and that allowed me to adapt and evolve as the dynamics of music graduated through time. It’s funny, often I have lyrics that you’ll have to think about or breakdown. My core was always lyricism with witty and catchy hooks that people can resonate with. I wouldn’t do music if I had to box myself in or I didn’t appreciate what the people want to hear from me. Fortunately, folks around me are enjoying and asking for more so I appreciate the desire to hear my pain, joy, ups, downs and perspective on life.”
BTM:
One last final question, I like to ask everyone- If years from now, a new artist cites you as their biggest influence, what would you hope they learned from your journey?
Von Barz:
“Great question by the way, I’d hope that they would stay true to themselves. Be comfortable with wins and losses and know Growth is valid, change is unnecessary. You can grow into any capacity, don’t ever change who you are because it’s what made you. Pay attention, consider others, take care of yourself and leave a legacy to talk about.”
As Von Barz continues to carve his own lane with high-energy tracks like “NAZCAR”, it’s clear that his passion for speed and success goes far beyond just music—it’s a way of life. We hope this exclusive Q&A interview gave you a deeper look into the mindset of an artist on the rise. Thank you, Von Barz !!
